In this podcast, I discuss the importance of reining in those recurring charges, suggesting you make it a habit to look over your subscriptions a few times a year.
Here’s the plan:
Create a Master Spreadsheet: List out every single service you subscribe to—monthly or annual.
Track the Details: Record the cost and the renewal date for each one. Knowing the renewal date is crucial for making timely decisions.
Ask the Hard Question: Before the next bill hits, look at each entry and ask: “Am I really utilizing this enough to justify the cost?” If the answer is no, it’s time to cancel.
The “Gym Membership Effect”: Be honest with yourself. Subscriptions, much like that unused gym membership, can become an expensive set-it-and-forget-it trap. Don’t pay for potential use—pay for actual use.
A bonus tip? Sometimes, just the act of canceling a service can prompt a reduced-price offer, like getting several months at a significant discount. But don’t let a deal trap you if you’re not using the service at all!
By keeping a visual list and being ruthless about what you actually use, you can save hundreds of dollars annually. That money is much better put toward something you truly need.
